Professor Shuhua Chen is a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor at the College of Arts, Xiamen University, as well as a doctoral supervisor at Macau University of Science and Technology. He holds several prestigious positions, including a member of the Piano Society of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, Vice President of the Piano Committee of the Fujian Musicians’ Association, member of the Piano Art Development Center of the Global Music Education Alliance, and member of the Expert Committee of Piano Art published by the People’s Music Publishing House. He is also an accomplished pianist.
Professor Chen graduated from the Piano Department of the Central Conservatory of Music and remained there to teach after graduation. In 1999, he went to Germany for further studies, graduating from the Freiburg University of Music in 2003. He continued his studies in musicology at the University of Freiburg while also serving as an assistant to the Vice President of the Freiburg University of Music, A. Immer.
In 2006, Professor Chen returned to China as a recruited talent and joined Xiamen University, where he has since served as Deputy Director of the Department of Music and Deputy Dean of the College of Arts. He has performed numerous concerts both domestically and internationally, collaborated with various orchestras in concerto performances, and has been invited to perform at international music festivals in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Japan, the U.K., Italy, Malta, and more. He has also served as a judge for many prestigious national and international piano competitions, and his students have won top prizes in both domestic and international competitions.
Professor Chen has received numerous accolades, including Fujian Province New Century Outstanding Talent, Fujian Province May Fourth Medal, and Xiamen University Outstanding Teacher. He has also been recognized as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Teachers and Best Mentors at Xiamen University. Additionally, he is a committee member of the Cultural Industry Professional Competence Evaluation System of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, head of the national first-class “Music Performance” program at Xiamen University, and a member of the Xiamen University Expert Advisory Committee on Aesthetic Education and General Education.
