Described as ‘sounds like a palette’ by France Musique Radio, Chao WANG is a Chinese pianist and Major music Artist who has obtained the Konzertexamen certification from The University of Arts Berlin, and currently serving as a lecturer at the School of Music, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
He won the ‘Grand Prix’ at the Concours Européen de Piano in Normandy in 2013, along with Best performance of Liszt Prize, Kawai Prize and Audience Prize. He is also prize-winner of the Takamatsu International Piano Competition (2006); the Muse International Piano Competition in Greece (2008); the Epinal International Piano Competition (2009); the Geneva International Piano Competition (2010); the Artur Schnabel Piano Competition in Germany (2016); the Bukarest International Youth Piano Competition (2004) and the TOYAMA Asia Youth Piano Competition (2003).
As he won various honors and performance increases, Chao WANG is becoming popular worldwide. He has performed with the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra, Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, the Lorraine Philharmonic Orchestra, the Takamatsu Symphony Orchestra, the Santorini Chamber Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra and the China Youth Symphony Orchestra. During recent years, he has given hundreds of recitals in China, Japan, Germany, France, UK, Italy, Poland and Switzerland and he was invited to perform at Riva-Belle Festival in Caen, Verbier Festival Academy, Beethoven Festival in Bonn and Piano Summer in Wesel.
As one of the most active pianists in China, he held individual concert tour every year, from the “Chopin Piano Works Session” in 2020, “Chao’s Music Impression” in 2021 to the “Golden Age” in 2022, covering the Beijing Concert Hall, Beijing Zhongshan Concert Hall, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall, Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre, Shandong Provincial Capital Grand Theatre, Qingdao Grand Theatre, Changsha Concert Hall, Suzhou Bay Grand Theatre, Tianjin Grand Theatre, Shenzhen Binhai Performing Arts Center, Dalian Development Zone Grand Theatre, Tangshan Poly Grand Theatre, Chongqing Philharmonic Factory, Yulin Grand Theatre and other important concert halls in China.
In winter 2006, he was invited to perform at the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the founding of Japan Takamatsu Symphony Orchestra with Tanaka Kazuyoshi performed a huge success by playing Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini Op.43. The performance was also recorded as DVD and released in Japan nationwide. His performance was lauded by the Shikoku News as “The young pianist who has featuring splendid techniques, as well as demonstrating appealing emotion and pure timbre.” In 2015, his debut album, featuring works by Liszt and Chopin, was released by ‘Acousence records’ worldwide. This recording is recommended by ‘Highresaudio’ as ‘Listening Tipp’. In 2021, he released his first vinyl album, ‘Boulevard des Capucines’, which is composed of piano sketches from the impressionist period. This is currently the only album of impressionist works recorded by A Chinese pianist in the vinyl field.
As a rising star of China, he has been published on the famous magazines ‘Bazaar Men’ China, ‘STYLE’ and ‘Youth Weekly’ Beijing as the youngest pianist so far. He has been also invited to collaborate with the winners of the winter Olympic Games to achieve the show ‘Star on Ice’ in China 2017, and he has been invited to be the Musical-Director in the Cohim International Floral Design Trend Master Forum in 2018. He has also appeared on television shows such as ‘I am a singer’ and ‘Who is still standing’.
Chao WANG studied with Prof.Jin Aiping at the Middle School Affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music Beijing, with Prof.Michael Endres and Prof.Fabio Bidini at the Hochschule für Musik ‘Hanns Eisler’ Berlin, and with Prof.Klaus Hellwig at the University of Arts Berlin between 2011 and 2017.
