Dr. Lo-An Lin, First Prize and Baroque Prize winner at the 2012 San Antonio International Piano Competition, was born in Taipei. She currently serves on the piano faculty of the School of Music at Soochow University as a Assistant Professor and Distinguished Young Scholar.
Praised for her “brilliance” and “thoughtfulness” (San Antonio Express-News), Lin has performed extensively across the world. As recipient of the prestigious Lowry Award from the Eastman School of Music, she made her Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall. Some of her performing highlights include the Seoul Arts Center in South Korea, the National Concert Hall and Recital Hall in Taipei, the Weiwuying National Arts Center in Kaohsiung, Oriental Art Center in Shanghai, Steinway Hall in New York, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. She was invited and performed as concerto soloist with Orchestras such as the San Antonio Symphony, Eastman Philharmonia, San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra, Eastern Music Festival Orchestra in America, Queensland Orchestra in Australia, Glenn Gould School Orchestra in Canada, Evergreen Symphony Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, and Suzhou Chinese Orchestra in China.
Lin has been recognized in numerous international and national competitions, including the First Prize and Baroque Prize at the San Antonio International Piano Competition; First Prizes at both the collegiate and national senior divisions of the MTNA Piano Competition; First Prize at the Viardo International Youth Piano Competition; First Prize, Audience Prize, Concerto Prize, and Best Australian Work Prize at the Lev Vlassenko International Piano Competition in Australia, where she became the competition’s first female first-prize winner; Second Prize at the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition in New York; Third Prize at the Corpus Christi International Competition; and top prizes at the Lennox Young Artists Competition and Missouri Southern International Competition, among others.
A dedicated educator, Lin holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance with a minor in Piano Pedagogy from the Eastman School of Music, where she served as teaching assistant for the class piano program and for the studios of Nelita True and Tony Caramia. She has taught at Eastman Community Music School, Yale School of Music, and Nazareth College, and has been invited to give recitals and masterclasses at institutions such as Lee University, Oakland University, East Tennessee State University, Denison University, University of Alabama, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in America. In China, she has given masterclasses at Taipei National University of the Arts, Fu Jen Catholic University, Beijing Normal University–Hong Kong Baptist University United International College, and Northwest Minzu University. She has also been invited to give virtual masterclasses and lectures for Weber State University, the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music, and the Piano League. Dr. Lin has served on the faculties of the Euro Arts Festival and Orbifold Music Festival. In addition, Lo-An’s students have received prizes in many competitions and achieved excellent results.
An avid chamber musician, Lin has performed at the Cactus Pear Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, and Bowdoin International Music Festival, and has collaborated with the Calder Quartet at the PianoTexas International Festival.
Lin earned her Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music as a George W. Miles Scholar under the mentorship of Hung-Kuan Chen. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees at the Eastman School of Music with Nelita True. Earlier, she studied at Interlochen Arts Academy and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Yoshikazu Nagai, where she was awarded the school’s Outstanding Achievement in Piano Prize.
